Necrology
It is with deep regret that we must inform you that Josephine "Lil Sis" Ellis, of 19460 Park Drive Apt. 511 Harperwoods, MI  48225 passed away Wednesday evening, November 2, 2011, at the age of 83.

She was born on February 20, 1928 in Americus, GA to the union of the late George and Mary Eva Bryant. She was the youngest of six children.

Josephine attended Sumpter County Elementary Schools and graduated from Staley High School in Americus, GA. In 1952, she moved to Aliquippa, PA and was employed at Aliquippa Hospital as a Nurse's Aide. She was a graduate of Moody & Hearty Bible Schools. She also attended the Community College of Beaver County. After many years of being a homemaker and caregiver to her descendents, she worked for the Aliquippa Head Start and became a member of the Foster Grandparents Association and worked under this title in the Aliquippa School District for 17 years.

In 2002, she moved to Harper Woods, Michigan, with her daughter Tina and family where she continued her employment as a Foster Grandparent for the Detroit School System for four years.

Josephine loved the Lord and was a very active and influential member and Mother of St. John Missionary Baptist Church while living in Aliquippa. She served on the Nurses Committee, Pastors Aide Committee, Usher Board, Missionary Board, Senior Choir and the Jubilee Hall Committee. She received numerous awards for her service in the community of Aliquippa. She was also very well known for her poem recitals that she performed on many occasions.

In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by her spouses, J.D. Hayes and William Ellis, Jr.; three brothers, Albert Bryant, Robert Bryant, and George Dupree; three sisters; Ruth Bryant, Arthur Lee Capel, and Louise Singleton; and a stepson, Ernest C. Jones, Sr.

Josephine leaves to cherish her loving memories: five children, Steve (Lillie Mae) Hayes, Anna (Ron) Shipp, Irene (Harold) Reddick, William (Deborah) Ellis, III and Tina (Antonio) Sims; one stepson, Larry Jones; one sister, Mamie (T.) Walker; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Bryant, Juanita Dupree, and Annie Mae Green; twenty-seven grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren; nineteen great-great-grandchildren; an abundance of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, and devoted friends, Elnora Sims-Frank, Lorraine and David Jones, Jeanette Price, and Deloise Baldwin.

Family and friends are being received at the home of granddaughter, Stephanie Hayes, 1105 Main St., Aliquippa, PA 15001.

Viewing will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Christian Lighthouse on Ravine/Highland Avenue, Aliquippa, where a service will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.

Joyce Marie (Tager) Genes, 57, departed this life Thursday, March 31, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Mary Ella Green-Genes and Ernest Genes. Joyce was a graduate of Aliquippa High School. She was employed for several years at the Embassy Suites Hotel, and most recently worked as a caregiver at Verland Foundation for the last 11 years. Joyce was a wonderful mother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew her.  She will be greatly missed.
 
Joyce was the mother of two daughters, Tamika Shavette Genes and Ashanti Kimera Genes; three grandsons, Juantez Hollins, Calshon Wimbs, and Teagan Wimbs, and a god grandson, Dalan Hall; one granddaughter, Amari Hayes. She leaves to cherish her memory three brothers, Henry (Janet) Green, Ernest Genes, and Leonard (Jaqueline) Genes; two sisters, Odessa (Vincent) Lazard, and Ernestine Turner, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
 
Friends are being received at the home of her daughter at 401 Linmar Terrace, Aliquippa. Viewing was Friday, April 8, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m. and funeral service was Saturday, April 9, 2011, at 11 a.m. All services were held at Christian Lighthouse Church, corner of Ravine and Highland Avenue, Aliquippa, Pa.

It is with deep regret that we must inform you that Lucille Bryant, our oldest family member, passed away Friday morning, September 25, 2009, at the age of 94 in Beaver Elder Care.

Lucille was born on May 26, 1915 in Americus,GA, a daughter of the late Eugene and Rosa Mathis. She was employed at Aliquippa Hospital as a housekeeper until her retirement.  She was a faithful member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Aliquippa, where she served on the Pastor's Aide Board until her illness.  Lucille was also a former member of the Helping Hands Club.
  
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert "Bud" Bryant.

Lucille is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Gertrude "Ducy" and Ronald Woods, Aliquippa; five grandchildren, Albert "Jack" (Manala) Bryant, Huntsville, AL; Richard (Debra) Bryant, Baden; Terry (Paulette) Woods,Sr., Monaca; Ronnie J. Woods, Aliquippa; Audrey (Jeff Anderson) Woods, Monaca; six great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Josephine "Lil Sis" Ellis, Detroit, MI; Margaret Bryant, Philadelphia, PA; and a host of nieces and nephews.  

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 28, 2009, from 6 to 8 PM at St. John Missionary Baptist Church. 

A celebration of her life will take place on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church at 1 PM with the Rev. Henry Murphy, Jr. officiating.

The family offers special thanks to the staff and friends at Beaver Elder Care for their care and concern.

Interment will be in Sylvania Hills Cemetery.

Roosevelt T. Morris, 82, of New Brighton, dearly beloved husband of Nancy (Ricchino) Morris, went home to be with his savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at Heritage Valley, Beaver.

Born April 2, 1926, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Roosevelt T. Sr. and Eva (Mann) Morris. Roosevelt was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy as a shipfitter and was the first African American Pipefitter at the Jones and Laughlin Steel Mill in Aliquippa, where he retired after 39 years. He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Free Church, Monaca, and the Aliquippa Auxiliary Police from which he provided security for many of the Aliquippa sports activities.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are a son, Richard (Debra) Bryant, Economy, Pa.; four daughters, Retha Wylie, Coraopolis; Yvonne Morris, Pittsburgh; Yvette (Chuck) Taylor, Pittsburgh, and Bobbi Spencer, Coraopolis; a grandson, Joshua P. Ricchino, New Brighton; beloved aunt, Mrs. Ruby Meachem, Pittsburgh; four brothers, Paul Morris, Oklahoma; Bernard, California; Clyde Morris, New Brighton, and David Morris, California; one sister, Robin (William) Kelley, California; a nephew, Rodney (Shanavorn) Butler, Virginia; a special family friend, LaJune Jordan; stepchildren, Nick (Terri) Ricchino, Economy; Kimberley Ricchino, New Brighton; Kathy (Edward) Corban, Monaca; William Ricchino, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Morris; a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Henry; a brother, Ezra Lowe and a grandson, Darryl Spencer.

Friends will be received today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton,

Curtisteen Walker Childs, 65, daughter of Curtis & Maime "Aunt T" Walker, passed away on December 27, 2008 in Phenix City, Alabama after an extended illness.  She was the wife of Fred Childs and leaves to mourn her mother, Maime "Aunt T" Walker; two children: Tyrone and Asiah Childs; two sisters: Learah Bernice Walker Smith, Mary Francis Walker Ross; and a host of nieces, nephews, and various family members.

It is with deep regret that we must inform you that Louise Bryant Singleton, of 1314 N. Jackson Street; Americus, GA 31719 passed away Friday morning, September 12, 2008, at the age of 82. She was the wife of the late Nathaniel Singleton and the second youngest child of the late George and Mary Eva Bryant. She leaves behind one daughter, Mary Singleton of Americus, GA, one sister Josephine "Lil Sis" Ellis of Detroit, Michigan, and a host of family members.

April 13, 2007: On a recent trip to Americus, Georgia, the Eastview Cemetery, where some of our ancestors are laid to rest, was visited.  The family plot contains George "Papa" Bryant, Josephine "Grandma Jo" Bryant, Charlie Bryant, Jim "Shack" Bryant, and Alberta Bryant (Jim's wife).  Attached is a short video of the family plot.

It saddens us that among the first news on our newly created website, is the notice of the death of one of our beloved family members.

 

We regretfully inform you that George Dupree, of 809 Duke Street; Monroe, GA 30655 passed away peacefully this morning, March 19, 2007, at the age of 78.  He was the husband of Juanita Dupree, only son of the late Ruth Bryant, and the oldest grandchild of the late George and Mary Eva Bryant.

 

In addition, he leaves behind three daughters: Stephanie Dupree, Lisa Dupree, and Tara Dupree Parks and three sons: Frederick Dupree, Thomas Dupree and George Dupree, Jr. and numerous grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Johnny Dupree.
